And now for something completely different

I feel a bit like I've been venting a lot of frustration lately, so although I just posted yesterday (I know, two posts in one week, it's crazy!), I just had to say something about tonight's adventures. A while back I volunteered to be involved in a staged reading - only a week-long commitment (pretty short for the theater world), and on a topic I thought would be interesting to explore - religion. Oh, and with a professor I might not otherwise get a chance to interact with much, as she's going on sebatical next year. However, as the time drew nearer, and looking at all that was on my plate (see yesterday's list...) I was doubting my decision to participate. After tonight though, I am positive I made the right decision! We had three hours of community building activities with a range of students from high school to grad school. We shared with the group a bit about our religious upbringing and our current relationship with faith and spirituality. We did image work, a little impromptu singing, free writing, and other fun interactive stuff. It may sound like a lot of kum-ba-ya, but it was such a re-charging experience. It's amazing the meaningful connections you can make in such a short period of time. It reminded me of the power of theater and why I love it and am involved in it. After sitting in seminar rooms all semester, it felt so great to be on my feet in a non-competitive, non-judgmental space without the connotations of right and wrong. Just honesty and creativity and openness.

You know, it's cool that you were able to tap in to God through theater. He is all about honesty, openness and creativity! Sounds like an awesome experience that you really needed to keep you going.

I agree! If you're interested in seeing what it's all about, you could swing by the U (Rarig Center on the West Bank - 21st and 4th) tonight or tomorrow night at 8pm. It's free. And there's food!
